Changes to our services during the booster programme

We are asking everyone in our community to please be kind and appreciative that all GP practices are working hard to deliver the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme
GP appointments ARE available, but inevitably there may be fewer during this intense period whilst we vaccinate to keep people safe from the spread of COVID-19.

Please treat our staff with the same level of respect you would expect to receive.

Important Update

Information for patients re: Eligibility for Covid Booster vaccinations following national announcements

Local GP practices and NHS vaccination clinics are awaiting further clinical and operational guidance from NHS England BEFORE we can implement the changes to eligibility for booster vaccinations following recent national announcements.

Please note: Until we have the new clinical guidance in place we can only currently provide booster vaccinations to those who had their second dose six months ago and are:
  • aged 40 years or over
  • frontline health and social care workers (including those who work in residential and nursing homes for older adults)
  • aged 16-39 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 (as set out in the green book), and adult carers or adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals.
We will let you know as soon as we can provide boosters sooner or to younger age groups.  Please do not contact your GP practice or visit a walk in vaccination clinic if you are under 40 years old or have had your second dose within six months as we will not be able to provide you with a booster yet.

We are not doing any COVID vaccinations. You are to attend a walk in vaccination clinic for these not our Walk In Centre.

How to get your booster:

Go to the NHS national booking service online at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/ or call 119 (free), between 7am and 11pm seven days a week.”

Currently Triaging All Patients

We are currently triaging all patients attending the Walk-In-Centre. Please do not attend if you have any of the following symptoms or you are concerned that you may have COVID-19:

  • High temperature

  • New continuous cough

  • Loss of sense of smell and/or taste

If you are displaying any COVID 19 symptoms, then please call the walk in centre and ask to have a telephone consultation with one of our clinicians.

The Walk In Centre is now offering telephone and video consultations to all patients in addition to face-to-face appointments. Certain conditions may need a face-to-face consultation and patients will be advised accordingly. Please note these consultations will be offered for same day only and are not pre-bookable.

We are still providing a sit and wait service but please be aware this may include queuing outside of the building due to the triaging system and limited seats inside due to social distancing. Patients attending the Walk in Centre for a blood test are asked to queue separately (to the right of the main entrance).

When attending the Walk-In Centre, patients are required to wear a face covering unless they are exempt in which case they will be asked if they are willing to wear a visor provided by us as an alternative.

Walk-In Centre

Walk-In centre open 7am-9pm for all patients

Norwich Practices Health Centre is operated by Norwich Practices Ltd under a contract with NHS England to provide NHS services. Norwich Practices Ltd is owned and operated by doctors from local GP practices. The company was set up because those local GPs felt they could provide more and better services to patients if they worked together.

Escalation

When we are busy in the Walk-In Centre we may turn patients away and only book in medical emergencies.
Please be aware that as we near our closing hours every evening we may implement our ‘Escalation’ procedure.
This will happen when our patients waiting time begins to exceed our hours left of opening.
During escalation our reception staff will inform patients that we are currently only seeing medical emergencies.
We use this procedure to ensure our patient’s safety and to make sure that our hard working clinicians are not overwhelmed by large numbers of patients coming into the Centre just before closing time.

A medical emergency is something that cannot be managed overnight with self-care.
If you feel that you have an emergency or that your child needs to be seen urgently, please report to reception so that they can book you in. Please be aware that we will see all children under the age of five, regardless of our escalation procedure.
If you are not a medical emergency we recommend that you call 111 or visit a pharmacy for medical advice. Reception can also offer you an appointment for first thing the following morning.

Blood Tests

Please note that blood tests are only performed between 8.00am - 12.30pm, Monday - Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).  This service is located on the Walk In Centre Floor at Rouen House.
